Reach for what you want...LOVE WHAT YOU DO!
Why the funny face...it's the distaste many of us have about auditioning....We provide a place to practice and get over the nerves...What all actors should be doing is loving auditions, not fearing them. They are our chance to show what we've got...to act!
What is a cold read? See the video below for a starting point....
Actors learn and grow though auditioning. The opportunities in Las Vegas are limited, yet we need to be as prepared to give our best performance and to enjoy the process just as our primary union brothers and sisters in Los Angeles or New York.
The answer is to practice and in doing so get over your fear of auditioning, of failure, of cold reading. And remember..don't rush...it's your time to shine!
Preparation and execution of your finest work during your audition is you ace in the hole. Interviews, listening skills, cold readings, performance ready material, improvisation, script and character study are the tools to put in your tool chest, along with self confidence, the ability to destress, and keeping your eye on the ball.
Since cold reading is the most common form of auditioning, developing the skill can be the difference between working and sitting on the sidelines. For an introduction see the video to the right.
Information is power. Find out why, how to and how to use information sources to your advantage.
There is nothing to be afraid of. Find a coach that makes you comfortable, that encourages you no matter what level you are at in your interest or career. Find one that allows mistakes, because trial and error is how we learn and get better. Actors have to live with rejection, as we put our best foot forward at auditons and most of the time the answer is "no".
So what do we do for a living? Audition.
We should have fun doing it. It is our chance to perform, really shine, and to do what we love most, act!
If it is not fun, why do it?
